Today, I got a early birthday gift from Keith, the GE 10 db in line amplifier. Yes it is for Tv. BUT it covers 5Mhz to 900Mhz.
5Mhz.-50Mhz.= 8db gain 50Mhz.-300Mhz.=10 db gain 300Mhz.-900Mhz.=9 db gain
So far it works GREAT. I can pick up schuykill co. good. And parts of leigh co. I am going to try it on the three scanners Bc-780xlt, Bc-890xlt, Bc-895xlt then each antenna the SA-1 scanner antenna, and the Discone, and Scantenna. As of now I am using it on the Bc-780xlt with scantenna and WOW, great. 10 db does not seem like much but scantenna is said to have a pos of 05 to 08db gain itself. With this is up to 18db gain. Don't forget the avg. attenation is -10 db when you use it.

why dont you grab yourself a beam, and point at what you want to hear you would be amazed at the stuff you can pick up, I get good results with this antenna not a beam:

I was thinking about getting a scanner beam,by grove. But keith did bring up a good point. You lose hearing the backside of the beam. Unless one could afford 4 of them put one in every direction! ;D

You can get the adaptors at radio shack. And yes it does work! kb3fck (keith) and I both use one on our antennas. It works best with a outdoor antenna. You must put the little tub part outside after the antenna and the little box part that pluges into the wall and scanner. Each one comes with directions. The one keith gave me is a GE 10-amp in line amp. 5-900Mhz. kb3fck might be able to help you a little more with this one. He told me about it. I do have the handheld 20-db amp from GRE that takes a nine volt batt. That works great.
