Hi folks,
Well, since I moved here from the police state of N.J. two years ago, I've come to the conclusion that not a helluva lot goes on here in Union Co. <g> Lot of the reason I moved here-couldn't take the arrogance and money-centric attitudes any more....
That said, I got back into radio after being out of it for awhile. I never was able to settle for tinny, cheaply built scanners and quickly got my old favorites-Motorola Sabers-for monitoring in style!
****
I'm trying to figure out the EMS PL mess here on Med 9 and 10 for the area-Union, Snyder, Northumberland and Montour counties. It's pretty useless to listen without PL decoding.
Does anyone have the actual channel plan, PL-wise? This is what I found so far:
460.375 seems OK using 192.8.
Med 10 (462.975): Dispatcher heard using 192.8 talking to rigs, they respond with 151.4. But I also heard the dispatcher using 156.7. Anyone know why the split PL arrangement and who uses what?
460.525: Dispatcher using 192.8, rigs 151.4.
462.95: Just seems to be Northumberland Co., 141.3 both ways.
Also, does anyone know what PL is used for Montour County?
If someone could sort this out I'd sure appreciate it!
Thanks,
Rich

460.375 seems OK using 192.8. Med 10 (462.975): Dispatcher heard using 192.8 talking to rigs, they respond with 151.4. 460.525: Dispatcher using 192.8, rigs 151.4. For the most part, you have confirmed what is posted for the PL's for each of these counties, but I wanted to clarify the rigs. Are you saying that the repeater uses 151.4 when rebroadcasting the rigs, or are you monitoring the input PL as 151.4.? 151.4 is used in Snyder, so could you be hearing their repeater? From what you said, this is unlikely, but I have never heard of any arrangement where the output PL's are different for a particular county freq, and I can't see how the rig's could trigger a different PL on the output...or why. 156.7 PL is used in Juniata and Huntington I can't help with Montour, but it is likely that each county can and will communicate with other units using the PL's for that county. When you get more figured out, please post your findings. Hopefully others closer will chime in as well.

Dispatcher comes thru repeater using 156.7 or 192.8 as mentioned, also 141.3 now. When the rigs transmit, they all come thru the repeater as 151.4. Here: Dsp > mob=192.8. Mob>dsp=151.4 Union Dsp > mob=156.7. Mob>dsp=151.4 Snyder Dsp > mob=141.3 Mob>dsp=151.4 Norry The only thing I can think is each applicable rig radio is set up with different PL's on their receive end so they don't hear each other's dispatchers, but the transmit to dispatch is all 151.4 so multiple receive positions are not necessary on the dispatcher's end.... OK, so what do the mobiles do when they want to talk to each other? This would tell me that Snyder, Norry, and Union share the same physical facility. (?) Dispatcher voices seem the same. Sure would like to get ahold of one of their radios and read it! Rich

The only thing I know is that Upper Northumberland is dispatched by Union. This may be part of your confusion, but certainly does not explain the multiple PL's. If you have signal strength meter and attenuation, you could try attenuating same freq's with different PL's to see if they are really coming from same place, or maybe just looking at the unattenuated signal strength, but MED UHF tend to be very well situated and strong. I am getting Med freq's 30 miles away that have nearly same signal strength as local. Keep us posted.

Found an old 2000 post that indicated Montour County - Med 9 - PL=146.2 This source was right on every MED PL he listed, but perhaps they abandoned this like Luzerne did. I would expect to be able to hear Montour from my location, and I haven't heard any Med UHF traffic.

I know the 151.4Hz is a regional PL that is put into the radios, so out-of county units can communicate with the 911 centers that have MEDS 9 and 10 in there consoles with that PL.

NO they DO NOT share the same facility,as I have been to both Union County and Snyder County's 9-1-1 centers and I know Northumberland dispatches their own except for Upper Northumberland county

That is very useful info. What I would expect is that out of town units would be need the output of the 911 ctr repeater to be on 151.4Hz as well since the EMS units would not have the correct county PL. Perhaps that is what happened, and it Rich did not capture it all the time. Thanks for clarifying this.

I'm using a Pro-97 with PL search and I'm watching it decode and display the tones on the fly. I started checking this all out when I had the freqs set up for decode for the specific tones, and wondered why I only heard half the conversation! Rich

151.4 is a regional PL as said above so if they go to another county, each county has the 151.4 ability.
Each county also has their own PL for MED at least 1-10 like Lycoming is 173.8 and I think Clinton county is 167.9.
The 192.8 PL on 460.375 you mentioned I think is MED 12 which is what they call it down there in Union etc., they have been just using as a pager activation for Fire and I forget if EMS is also included or not since their low band pagers wasnt always going off on 46.060.
They also have what is called Med 11 which EMS uses. The MED 12 one can be repeated like the Med 11 but isnt with its use for dispatch only for pagers. I dont think it gets real distant coverage either because I had a portable on MED 12 coming over the Dewart bridge and it was sorta weak there as I recall.

Still looking to understand if the 911 ctr transmits 151.4 for the repeater, or do they stick to the county PL and only receive 151.4 for out of town units. From what Rich reports, sure sounds like 911 ctr transmits home PL, so I wonder how the EMS units here the transmission.

Hi everyone,
Regional PL for central PA Med is 151.4
Northumberland is 141.3 both Med 9- and 10 dispatch
Montour is 146.2 Use Med-9
Union and Snyder use 192.8 460.525-192.8 460.375 192.8
Daulphin County-203.5 med 9 and 10
Lycoming- 173.8
Clinton- 167.9
Hopes this helps to clarify the med 9 -10 mess in the central susquehanna valley. Just wait to you get police and fire freqs in use there.

Centre, Clinton, and Lycoming are confirmed. Also, Clinton MED-10 has a PL of 151.4 (the regional PL)

Just a quick FYI Union County also uses the PL 162.2 for med 11 & 12. The repeater is up all the time now for Med 12 (dispatch), and YES most counties can switch between there own PL & Regional (151.4) at the 911 centers..
