As long as i've been involved with the scanning hobby i've heard that LMR 400 and beldon 9913 are the best performing low loss coax on the market for scanning junkies. I have personaly not used either one. My antenna coax is going to need replacing by spring and i was thinking of changing to LMR 400. I know it costs a pretty penny. I have been using regular TV cable coax and also the heavier digital tv cable coax. I have been told that the LMR 400 does help cut down on signal loss especially in the 450-460MHz band which almost 99% of the frequencies i scan are in. My cable run from the beam antenna to scanner is 75ft so i'm sure i'm losing signal with what i am using now. Does anyone know if this stuff is what they say it is or is it a dud. Alot of the coax assemblies i see for sale come with "N" connectors already on them. This may sound stupid , but i'm not sure what connector that is. What i would be doing is hooking this to a grove scanner beam which has the same connector as TV. Either way i will need to replace the coax when the weather improves. The current stuff is starting to show weather cracks and i'm sure it is leaking water somewhere.

Thanks Clint that helped answer some questions I'm not sure which i will go with . I do monitor on occasion Centre co's 800MHz system. Sometimes i can receive it good other times i can't. The 400 coax may help with reception for that. I'm in no real hurry to mess with it until the cold and ice go away ;D ;D

Don't waste your money on LMR-400. It is great stuff if you are transmitting a signal. I use it for 2 meter and 440 Ham radio. For HF work it would be over kill. Use RG-6 all will be fine. You will not see or hear the difference. Loss comes in say you put out 100 watts when It gets to Ant. it is now 80 watts you lose it in coax. LMR-400 might be 95watts at ant. RG-6 might be 80 watts.
